We’re still on a reduced schedule, but Matthew, sap that he is, couldn’t help but pop in and talk about some films that tug on the old heartstrings. Alli and Kati couldn’t make it, but special guest film critic and journalist Kristy Puchko steps up to talk about her favorite romances, and counter some of Matthew’s predictable choices with ones you’ve probably never heard of. Matthew and Kristy have a blast, and along the way manage to discuss the careers of Kenneth Branagh and Billy Wilder, ponder the question of just what makes a 90′s movie a 90′s movie, and talk about when censorship can actually be a good thing (stay with us there). Wrong Opinions About Movies will return on 29 January with our double-sized conclusion to our Alfred Hitchcock retrospective.

Through March, we’ll be bringing you one episode per month. This is due mainly to one of our hosts (me, it’s me) being two and a half steps away from a nervous breakdown. Apparently I can work full-time and do a weekly podcast, but throw in school and trying to develop a writing career and it all falls down. I’ll be taking a (permanent?) hiatus from school after this term, however, and the podcast will return to a normal weekly schedule at that point.

For now, check back at the end of January for our Hitchcock episode (featuring a very special guest!), and then come back in February for our Studio Ghibli episode, where we’ll have a look at the best of the studio’s films as a lead-in to our review of The Secret Life of Arrietty. And as always, you can subscribe in iTunes to make sure you never miss an episode.

This week we forego the classic film discussion for two current reviews, as the studios have seen fit to drop all their best films of the year on us at once. Here, then, we discuss not only the controversial new adaptation of Steig Larsson’s novel The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (controversial not so much in it’s subject matter, but in whether or not it should exist at all, given that an excellent adaptation of the film had already been made in 2009), as well as Steven Spielberg’s first foray into animation with The Adventures of Tintin. Matthew also checks in with his thoughts on Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, Kati does the same with Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, and Alli discovers Trigun. All in all it’s a jam-packed episode with lots of great discussions, so hit play already!
